2023 US Open Picks - Quarterfinals

2023 US Open, Week 2 #

Some interesting QF matchups in Week 2 of the 2023 US Open.

Alcaraz(1) v. Zverev(12) #

Zverev played an amazing match in his upset win over Sinner to close out the 4th round. I'm not sure if he has enough time to recover physically and mentally after his 5-set win over Jannick. Carlos's nuclear forehand will be well-rested and ready. Alcaraz in 3.

Medvedev(3) v. Rublev(8) #

The all-Russian battle should be interesting. Medvedev is 5-2 vs. Rublev, with Rublev winning 2 out of their last 3 meetings. I give Daniil the slight edge and I think he will pull it out in 4 close sets.

Tiafoe(10) v. Shelton #

This is the most intriguing QF matchup, featuring 2 young American players. The US will have at least 1 semi-finalist for the second year in a row. But I don't think it will be Tiafoe again. Shelton will be moving on to his first Grand Slam semifinal. Shelton in 5.

Fritz(9) v. Djokovic(2) #

If Fritz can pull off the upset, it guarantees 1 American player in the finals, which hasn't happened since 2006 (Roddick). But I don't think it's going to happen this year. Novak is 7-0 vs. Fritz, and Novak is playing at an unbelievable level and looks as sharp as ever. Novak in 4.
