What is UTR and Universal Tennis? #
While USTA and NTRP have been around for a while, I think a lot of rec players have been looking for a better and more dynamic, real-time rating system.
Their home page states:
"One global platform for everything pickleball and tennis. Connecting players, coaches, clubs, and federations – all powered by the world's most accurate ratings."
Universal Tennis seems like the most popular alternative right now to the USTA, and I've been checking out their website a couple times a week for a while now. The website UI and user experience is excellent and simple. USTA's website can be cumbersome for newbies. UTR ratings are updated after each match, while NTRP ratings get updated at the end of each season, another reason for UTR's growing popularity. UTR's greater range also allows for more accurate player ratings.
1 Global Rating System for All Players #
"The UTR Rating is the world’s most accurate rating system. It promotes fair and competitive play across the tennis world. All players are rated on the same 1.00-16.50 point global scale based on daily match results."
They have one rating system for juniors, high school, college, adults, and professionals. For example, Arthur Fery of Stanford University is currently the top college player, rated 14.54. Novak is the top pro, rated 16.46. I'm not too far behind, at 3.75. Since I am going back to the US soon, I can't wait to start playing in some UTR events and see if I can improve my rating.
